The Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a process of body awareness through observing habits in our body and thinking.

Using the thinking process of inhibition and direction, along with verbal and hands on feedback, students use a movement laboratory (sitting, standing, walking, laying down, performing, running, etc.) to explore the relationship between thinking and movement.

As students awareness expands, students redirect their thinking or movements so that one can have the self agency to move with more ease, coordination, balance, efficiency and awareness.

About Me

Originally a college athlete (soccer), Rachael was first introduced to Alexander Technique when studying abroad at the London Dramatic Academy in 2007. After completing her MFA from the Actors Studio Drama School and 8 plus years in arts education, she returned to AT when she became a mother in July 2020. Looking to find relief from the physical aches and pains of motherhood, she pursued Alexander Technique as a way to combine her love of the arts, movement and teaching.

Rachael loves body work of all kinds and is particularly interested in working with performers, athletes (runners), parents, and office workers.

FAQs

What can I expect in a session?

Consider your session to be a movement laboratory. Along with hands on feedback, you will experiment sitting on a stool, walking, or laying on the table to observe your physical and thinking habits.

Once habits reveal themselves, we use Alexander Technique principles (inhibition, direction, primary control, etc) to allow the habit to evolve into a more efficient movement or thought.

As sessions progress, movements and principles can be applied to your every day life, work related activities, and any athletic or performance based activity.

Who is AT for?

Everyone! Whether you are looking to enhance your performance technique, improve your athletic performance, relieve pain, or increase your general awareness, Alexander Technique can be tailored to all needs.

Do you accept insurance?

Some insurance policies do allow AT to be part of their HSA or FSA spending. Check with your insurance before booking an appointment.

Is AT like physical therapy?

No! While AT can be immensely beneficial to your physical and mental health, this technique is not meant to replace any medical therapies. It CAN enhance the benefits of them though.

Please consult medical professionals about medical issues.
